Flour

The is much that can be done if one has a bag of flour, a few basics, time, heat, and the will to use said flour. If one has flour, one can have:
- Warm cake dusted with powdered sugar
- Toasted bread, crust caramelized and shattering under one's teeth, the crumb chewy and spread with golden butter
- Piping hot tortillas to fill with what one's heart desires
- Pizza, steaming, giggles as one battles the ever lengthening string of melted cheese
- Shortbread cookies to daintily have with one's tea
- Empanadillas de pollo, pizza, mariscos
- Domplines, golden and filled with bacalao which reminds me of...
- Bacaitos fritos, red with achiote, briny and crisp
- Muffins and the hard decision of going for jam, nutella, butter, a dollop of peanut butter
- Doughnuts, soft and scented with nutmeg. Topped with cinnamon sugar and feeling like a perfect fall morning
I appreciate things like flour. Salt. Butter, sugar, leavening. Raisins and walnuts and chocolate. Humble and basic. Because it's a silly little reminder for an overthinker like me... That in the act of being plain, one becomes imbued in the magic of possibility. That in the noticing of what one can be, maybe we can finally realize that the shackles of our prisons are two ingredients away from being completely reinvented. A lesson I forget often but is worth remembering. A corny thought but I do adore cheesy things.
Be like a tree and let the dead leaves drop.
